Turkcell Drives Next-Generation 6G and AI Infrastructure Across Europe

The Dawn of Autonomous 6G Networks

The architecture of tomorrow’s connectivity is being forged right now, and Turkcell is stepping firmly into the vanguard of this transformation. Representing Türkiye on the global stage, the telecommunications giant is embedding itself deeply into the international research and development ecosystem. By securing participation in six highly competitive European research programs, Turkcell is moving beyond mere implementation. It is actively shaping the foundational standards of next-generation digital infrastructure.

At the heart of this expansion is the relentless pursuit of intelligent, self-healing networks. Through the Horizon Europe-backed MAGIC-6G project, the focus shifts squarely to artificial intelligence as the central nervous system of 6G. Turkcell is engineering a specialized large language model tailored specifically for telecommunications operators. This is not merely an incremental upgrade. It is a fundamental reimagining of network orchestration, enabling dynamic, autonomous service management that anticipates traffic loads and optimizes resource allocation in real time.

Simultaneously, the vision of ubiquitous connectivity is taking physical shape through the 3D-NET project. Operating under the EUREKA framework, this initiative targets the seamless integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. Turkcell is developing complex three-dimensional network structures designed to eliminate coverage blind spots. When terrestrial grids falter, these integrated systems ensure unbroken communication continuity, pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible in crisis scenarios. Bridging the gap between theoretical research and commercial viability, the FUTURE-6G initiative further cements this trajectory. As the first Turkish project accepted into the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Industrial Doctoral Networks, it cultivates a new generation of expert researchers. By fostering direct collaboration between academia and industry, Turkcell is ensuring that reliable, AI-powered decision-making mechanisms transition smoothly from the laboratory to live, operational environments.

Fortifying the Digital Backbone Against Crisis

Resilience is no longer an optional feature; it is an absolute necessity. Modern critical infrastructure spans telecommunications, energy, and transportation, and these sectors must operate in perfect, uninterrupted synchrony, especially during catastrophic events. The SAFARI project addresses this exact vulnerability. By decentralizing AI-powered decision-making mechanisms, the initiative reduces dangerous dependencies on centralized control nodes. Turkcell is spearheading the development of communication solutions that guarantee the continuity of emergency services, such as the 112 network, ensuring they remain autonomous and functional even when primary networks suffer catastrophic outages.

Building upon this foundation of resilience, Turkcell is taking international coordination of the UNIFIER project. This ambitious endeavor tackles the chaotic reality of extraordinary situations where standard infrastructure is compromised. The goal is to deploy a hybrid communication architecture that allows cross-border, multi-agency teams to collaborate seamlessly, bypassing both language barriers and technological incompatibilities. These solutions will not remain theoretical. They are slated for rigorous validation under real-world field conditions across Türkiye and Europe, proving their mettle where it matters most.

Closing the Loop with AI-Driven Circular Economics

Technological advancement must not come at the expense of environmental sustainability. The RESURRECTION project, also backed by Horizon Europe, introduces a paradigm shift in hardware lifecycles through the fusion of artificial intelligence and advanced robotics. Turkcell is taking ownership of the telecommunications use case, specifically targeting the remanufacturing and reuse of network modems.

This is a highly complex logistical challenge. The project utilizes AI to perform precise condition analysis on returned devices, determining their optimal secondary use case. Following this assessment, robotic systems execute automated disassembly, repair, and preparation for reuse. By establishing end-to-end traceability and automating these intricate physical processes, Turkcell is driving a new era of circular production. The result is a faster, vastly more efficient, and deeply sustainable operational model that sets a new benchmark for the entire technology sector.
